Everglades on the Bay - Shell Update (link)
As the Everglades on the Bay enters July of 2006, the pace of shell construction is ever increasing. By mid-June, the shell team had poured the 8th Level of both the North and the South Towers. This was an important milestone for the project as the typical floors begin at the 9th Level. The shell team would no longer have to deal with erecting traditional scaffolding and forming the numerous beams of the lower floors, but rather could proceed with the efficiency afforded by flying tables. Currently, slabs for the South Tower are poured through the 12th Level with the North Tower right behind at the 10th Level. The shearwall jump form system is poured three levels above the working deck for both towers. The shell team is ever-so-close to reaching the cycle of pouring one floor in each tower per week, which is necessary to maintain the tight construction schedule.

In an exciting development, on July 8th, after months

of preparation and planning, the shell team poured the 2nd Level of West Podium Area #1 – the first elevated slab pour in the Podium. The Podium is broken into 6 Areas – three in the West Podium and three in the East Podium. Scaffolding and decking operations are underway for the 2nd Level West Podium Area #2.

The challenges ahead are many. Top out for both towers and the podium is scheduled for June of 2007. In order to meet this deadline, the day is approaching when the shell team will place 6 major concrete pours per week – 2 tower slabs, 2 podium slabs, and 2 shearwall lifts. Furthermore, we at Gryphon Construction are accustomed to working as general contractors. Working as a subcontractor at the Everglades, without final authority over crane and site logistics, has proved to be very demanding! Strict city noise ordinances, which prevent us from beginning work before 8:00 AM, compound the difficulties. Luckily for the Everglades on the Bay, challenges are what we at Gryphon Construction live and work for!
